He always called me Big Guy or Big Fella. Wish I had gotten to know him better. I would have loved to hear about his Naval experiences.

I have often thought of Burt over the years. He and I worked many softball games together in and around the Worcester area from about 1973 through the early 80's. I learned a great deal about umpiring and the rules of baseball and softball from Burt. He helped make me a better umpire in many ways. My wife Judy Bernard-Hitchcock and I wish Burt's family and friends the gentle peace of Christ in this time of sorrow. May God take Burt into his kingdom of joy!
