William Tuomi Obituary

William A. Tuomi, 84, of 657 Worcester St., Southbridge, died Sunday, August 19, 2007 in the Meadows of Leicester after a long illness.

He leaves his wife of 58 years, J. Rita (Sullivan) Tuomi, a sister-in-law Eva Tuomi of Worcester, a brother-in-law John F. Sullivan Jr. of Leicester, and many nieces and nephews. His brother Rudolph Tuomi predeceased him.

Mr. Tuomi was born in Worcester, son of Waino and Alma (Maki) Tuomi. He lived in Southern California for 30 years before moving to Las Vegas in 1991. He returned to Massachusetts when he moved to Southbridge in 1998.

After graduating from Commerce High School in Worcester, he joined the Army and served in the European Theater during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion.

Mr. Tuomi was an inspector at Rockwell International in Calif., where he worked 25 years retiring in 1985. He was involved in the construction of highly specialized aircraft for the U.S. Government including the B-1 Bomber and the Space Shuttle. He had a passionate interest throughout his life in all facets of aviation.

The funeral Mass will be Tuesday, August 21 at 1 p.m. in St. Catherine of Sweden Church, 1 Wiser Ave., Worcester. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. There are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38103

The Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester, is directing arrangements.
