Ruth Goodney Obituary

Ruth M. (Hennessey) Goodney, 85, of Worcester, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2007 in St. Vincent Hospital.

Her husband of 59 years, Francis P. Goodney, died in 2005. She leaves five children, Nancy J. LaRochelle of Southboro, Paul F. Goodney of Durham, N.C., Mary R. Griffin, Bruce W. Goodney, both of Worcester, and Karen A. Quinlivan of Rutland; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, William P. Hennessey, and a sister, Jean Fitzgerald.

Mrs. Goodney was born in Worcester, daughter of William A. and Helen T. (Layden) Hennessey. She was a graduate of Commerce High School and served in the U.S. Coast Guard SPARS during World War II.

Mrs. Goodney was a librarian and cataloguer in the Gordon Library at WPI for 20 years before her retirement in 1984.

She was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Parish and the Greendale American Legion Post No. 419. She was a volunteer at the UMass-Memorial Medical Center for many years.

Calling hours at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester, are Wednesday, Oct. 24 from 5 to 8 p.m. The funeral Mass will be Thursday, Oct. 25 at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 25 Fales St., Worcester. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Pernet Family Health Center, 237 Millbury St., Worcester 01610.

Ruth was such a loving and caring woman. She was like a second mom to me. She will be greatly missed by all my family. May God bless and grant peace to her children.
