To the Hipple and McKay families:

I read the sad news of Leah's passing in the Houston Chronicle. It touched me because I knew Leah and because I also have young children.

Leah and I were friends in elementary school. We took piano lessons from my neighbor, Lucille Montfort. Leah was pretty, smart, talented and loved by our teachers. We both moved from the neighborhood at about the same time and lost touch. But I didn't forget Leah. When it came time to name my twin daughters, the name "Leah" was at the top of my list. It evoked thoughts of a sweet and proper little girl. I read other's words on what a fine lady and mother she became. She was a special young lady, 35 years ago, as well.

May God grant you peace and strength -

Dear Mike and Family,

I met Leah about a year ago while working with the Baton Rouge Speech and Hearing Foundation during her tenure as President of the Board. She was enthusiastic about her work there and obviously dedicated to her husband, her children and life in general. She often spoke about you ALL with great love and laughter!

I want you to know that Leah MADE a difference in people's lives...people that you may never meet. She addressed the simplest task and the most complicated challenges wholeheartedly. What a blessing to have known her! I am confident that she has been joyfully welcomed into heaven...and is "organizing" some aspect of it as we speak!!!

My prayers and my sympathy to you, Mike, and all your family! May the Holy Spirit support you through the days ahead!

Sincerely,

Roberta Carona Vicari, M.D.

Dear McKay family,

I was blessed to know and babysit for Leah, Mike, and her precious sons Watson and Harris when I was a Chi Omega at LSU. Her tremendous love for her family, "her boys" was clear everyday. I remember admiring her daily ambitiousness-her ability to be a fabulous, mother, wife, and community volunteer. She did it all and with such heart. I am shocked and saddened to hear of Leah. God bless her family in this time of sorrow and always.

I used to work with Leah at LMIC my name then was Rachel Redden. I was so sad to hear about Leah. She was a wonderful person. I ran into her at the mall about 5 months ago and hadn't seen her in a long time. All she could talk about was her kids and family. She was definitely doing what she wanted to do.
