ROSE MARIE COWELL
CANDOR - Rose Marie Cowell died on Easter Sunday, March 23, 2008, after a brave battle with emphysema.
Marie was born on July 25, l930 in Newark, NJ, to the late Philomena and Edward Kuczera. Marie is survived by her husband of 57 years, Thomas Cowell; daughter, Deborah (Richard) Mandl, Ithaca; son, Thomas (Donna) Cowell, Poughkeepsie; grandchildren, Isaac, Sarah, Jason, Chesna, Jessica; two brothers, Edward (Betty) and Raymond (late Joan); five sisters, Shirley (Richard) Singhofen, Dorothy (late John) Guinti, Ruth (Mario) Ariemma, Martha (late Mark) Rodberg, Linda Margolis; brother-in-law, John (Rose) Cowell; sisters-in-law, Nancy (Lee) Cowell, Mary Cowell; numerous nieces, nephews and good friends.
Marie grew up on Staten Island, and moved to Candor in 1959. She was an at home mom who had tremendous wisdom and skill at homemaking. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. While her children were growing up, she volunteered in their schools and with the Girl Scouts. She was actively involved in her church and the Rosary Society throughout her life. Marie had a quick mind and nimble fingers and put a lot of creativity into sewing. She crocheted and knit, but in the past twenty years her seamstress skills concentrated on quilting, creating numerous beautiful and stunning quilts. She was beloved by friends and family, known for her hard work, generosity, energy, loyalty, and can do attitude.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 28, 2008, at 11 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Catatonk, NY, with the Reverend William Moorby officiating. Burial will follow at the Maple Grove Cemetery, Candor. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Marie's memory to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105; or to a mental health organization of your choice. Arrangements are by the Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home.
