James Smith Obituary
NICHOLS - James Arthur Smith, Sr., age 60, of 190 Decker Hill Road, Nichols, NY died Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at Wilson Memorial Hospital after a sudden illness. Jim was born December 18, 1947 at Sanford, FL, a son of the late Chester and Delma Van Burger Smith. Jim enlisted in the US Navy after attending Owego Free Academy. He served in various stations around the world and received the Purple Heart. He was employed at E.I.T. in Endicott, NY as a drill press operator. Jim enjoyed tournament bass fishing and assembling models.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, James A. Smith, Jr. and Sherri Parker Smith of Groton, NY; his grandchildren, Cheyenne, Cody and Christie Smith of Groton; three brothers, Robert Smith of Tennessee, Dale Smith of Owego and Grant (Nancy) Smith of Endicott, NY; nieces and nephews; two sisters-in-law, Kathryn and Bertha Smith; a lifelong friend, Elwin (Susan) Hoyt; and his former wives, Joyce Walker and Linda Smith. He was predeceased by two brothers, Roland and Jerry Smith.
Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, 2008, at the Perkins Funeral Home with Rev. David Nicholls officiating. Burial will be private in Evergreen Cemetery, Owego, NY. Friends are invited to call from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home, 55 West Main St., Dryden. Jim was a great man. It is a shame that he never got to retire and just sit back and do what he loved most, making his models. I worked with Jim for many years in Ocala Florida and it greatly saddens me to know that he passed just days after i last talk to him. Jim you and Bubba are in our prayers and you will be truly missed. Jaimie M.

We worked with Jim at EIT and will surely miss him. Talking about the Giants, Gators, and football in general was alot of fun. We at EIT miss him already and our prayers are with his family at this hard time. God bless you all.
