Barbara Capalongo Obituary

BARBARA CAPALONGO
ITHACA - Barbara Capalongo passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2008, at Cayuga Medical Center. Born Barbara Jean Page on March 1, 1936 to Elwood C. Page and Mary Alice Head, she spent most of her youth growing up in Brooktondale, NY.
Barbara was a headstrong, heart-strong, life-loving, fun-loving woman who always looked for the good in everyone. She loved with all her heart and soul, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and they are what she lived for. Barbara had an uncanny penchant for Tweety Bird, and we will always remember her as one very tough and mighty little bird. Barbara was immediately and forever loved by all who crossed her path because of her captivating smile, generous love and acceptance of all.
From her granddaughter, Ariel, "Nana also had a passion for animals. Our cat, Tina, was one of her favorites. She loved Tina because they were both princesses." In honor of her love for animals and in lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the SPCA of Tompkins County or any other animal shelter of your choice.
Barbara is survived by her children, Anthony Capalongo of Newfield, Diane Capalongo of Trumansburg, Vincent Capalongo of Ithaca, Michael Capalongo of Trumansburg, and Katherine Capalongo of Tarpon Springs; grandchildren, Amy, Ashley, Ariel, Austin, Christine, Tony, Carmen, Colby, Michael, Joe, Giovanna, Jacob; and three great-grandchildren, Demetrius, Janaishia and Elfadinne; several nieces and nephews; and one very close nephew, Hank Capalongo. She is also survived by her sisters, Kathy Besemer (Richard) of Berkshire, Margaret Denmark (Fred) of Trumansburg; and brother, Peter Page (Janet) of VA. In addition to her parents; Barb was also predeceased by Anthony P. Capolongo; her sister, Patricia; and her brother, Edward.
Family and friends are invited to attend graveside services for Barbara on Tuesday, July 29, at 1:30 p.m. at the Calvary Cemetery on Floral Avenue. There will be a celebration of Barb's life immediately following at 136 Compton Rd., Ithaca. Arrangements are by the Bangs Funeral Home.

I was so sorry and saddened to learn of Barb's death. When we were young girls, she lived in Virginia a few years and we spent a lot of time together. Even though a cousin, she was like my best friend and I have fond memories of our good times. I was lost when she moved back to NY. We have kept in touch for many years, mostly Christmas cards, a few letters and have shared pictures of our families. Even though we were many miles apart, I will miss her and am feeling the loss.

Your cousin,
Ann Bosley Yeager

TO BARBARA'S CHILDREN,
I REMEMBER BARBARA WHEN SHE WENT TO GROTON CENTRAL SCHOOL AND IT WAS EIGHTER OUR SOPHMORE YEAR OR JUNIOR YEAR WHEN THE PAGE GIRLS WERE IN THE SCHOOL, I ALSO REMEMBER "JITTER" ALSO. BARBARA AND I BECAME FAST FRIENDS. THEN AT THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR THEY MOVED AWAY. I FINALLY CAUGHT UP WITH BARBARA YEARS LATER WHEN SHE LIVED ON ALBANY ST AND I BELIEVE HER SON TONY BECAME FRIENDS WITH MY SON JOHNNY AND MY LATE HUSBAND, JACK BROOKS, KNEW HER LATE HUSBAND, ANTHONY. THEN I DIDN'T SEE HER UNTIL SHE WAS IN THE HOSPITAL AND I WAS A VOLUNTEER. I VISITED HER QUITE OFTEN UNTIL SHE WAS MOVED TO LAKESIDE AND ONCE AGAIN I VISITED HER, TALKING OF OLD TIME AND SHE BROUGHT ME UP TODATE ON WHAT HAD TRANSPIRED THRU THE YEARS UNTIL PRESENT. THE ONE THING I'LL ALWAYS REMEMBER ABOUT HER IS HER BEAUTIFUL SMILE THAT WAS SO WARM BUT VERY GENTLE AND VERY WELCOMING. BARARA'S EYES HAD A CERTAIN SPARKLE THAT WAS SO LIVELY AND VERY WARM AND AFFECTIONATE. I KNOW NOW THAT BARBARA IS NO LONGER IN PAIN OR SUFFERING SHE IS IN A BETTER PLACE WATCHING OVER YOU ALL.
FROM MY HEAT TO YOURS,
JACKI CURLEY BROOKS
