Gary Cross Obituary

GARY D. CROSS
CORTLAND - Gary D. Cross, 57, of Page Green Road, Cortland, NY, died June 6, 2008 in Syracuse as the result of a motorcycle - state equipment vehicle accident.
Born November 20, 1950, he was the son of Alene Bronson of Cortland and the late Douglas Cross.
Having been a lifelong resident of the Cortland and Marathon areas, he had attended Marathon Schools and had served his country with the US Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He had started the band, County Line, where he was the lead singer as well as the lead guitarist, and had been a member of the American Legion Carrington-Fuller Post #800 of Groton and the Disabled American Veterans of Cortland, as well as Vietnam Veterans of America. He had been the owner of Cross Construction, was an avid motorcyclist, and enjoyed his country music, but his real passion was his wife, Vivian, who was the love of his life. Gary will not only be missed by his loving family, but by numerous friends and associates.
Besides his mother, he is survived by his loving wife, Vivian McKay Cross at home; children, Douglas (Rikki) Cross and Jessica Cross, all of Cortland; stepson, Mark O'Brien of Homer; a sister, Maxine (Kevin) Courbat of Brewerton, NY; his brothers-in-law, Ronald and Gary (Nancy) McKay of Groton, and Kirk (Bev Surine) McKay of Cortland; seven grandchildren, a special uncle and aunt, and several nieces and nephews; as well as his beloved dog, Chi-chi.
Services will be held on Monday, August 4, 2008, at noon with the Rev. Robert Richardson officiating at the Zirbel Funeral Home, 115 Williams St., Groton. The family will receive friends 10-12:00 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will be in the McLean Cemetery with full Military Honors with a reception to follow at the American Legion in Groton.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Fund.
