Dear Nowalk Family,
I was deeply saddened to hear of Carol’s passing. I remember the summer days spent at your home and the life lessons that she taught. These lessons are still with me today. Things like cooking, gardening, canning, freezing, and the fun times we all had. She was an amazing woman and no one can say different. Thank you Carol !! You will be greatly missed.

Dear Mr. N., Kristin, Joel & families:
We just got back from vacation when I heard the sad news of Carol's passing. I have so many wonderful twirling and cheerleading memories of Carol. She made things fun even when the practice was hard. Mostly I remember her huge smile and contagious laughter.
My Mom's birthday was the 8th and I had no idea at the time she had another friend to share cake with! I'm sure only their brand of laughter could make heaven a more cheerful place! Carol was an awesome lady and I pray that your wonderful memories will sustain you now and in the months ahead.
Love,
Melaine

To the Nowalk family - what a blessing it is to have been Carol's classmate and friend. She was one of my favorite people and couldn't have had an enemy in the world. Her genuine zest for life was AWESOME, as well as her overwhelming care and compassion for others. May wonderful memories ease your pain. She will be sorely missed.

Dear Nowalk Family,
I could not muster the ability to speak at the funeral however I would like to take the opportunity to express how important Carol was, and how all of you are, to me. The memories at 42 South St. are forever with me. For those who spent time in the loving care of the greatest babysitter known to man I offer these simple memories:
The chip in the coffee table
Mac & cheese with hot dogs
Spaghettios
Building forts in the play room
Playing football/kickball in the yard
Push Pops - Flinstone Orange Flavor
Van Halen Lip Singing Concert
Burning ants with a magnifying glass
Cory drinking a whole gallon of milk
The beatings Danny and I took from the older kids
Playing 'guns' at MacDowells
The creek & crayfish
The snakes behind Joan Watrose's house
Trips to the Borg Warner Pool
The Day's house across the street
Playing in the ditch
Baking lessons
Burn Ball (RUN!!!)
Leaving bikes in the driveway
The scanner on the frig
Time out on the couch
These little memory joggers have ran through my mind since Monday and they are only a few. All bring a a sense of saddness to my face that is quickly replaced with a smile.
Carol...I love you more than any words can ever express. There was and will always be a special place in my heart for you.
Dick, Joel, and Kristen...Hold your heads up high. You are truley blessed to have been so much closer to the woman that we all loved and will miss so very much.

Dick, Kristen and Joel,
I was truly blessed to have Carol as my babysitter and neighbor. Many of my fondest memories growing up happened in your house. I met several other kids there that I still consider my best friends. Thank you for all that your family has done for me. I will never forget it.

Dick, Kristen, and Joe,
After reading the other entries in this book, I realized just how fortunate we ALL were to have had Carol in our lives. Your family has been my second family and Carol my second mom. My fondest memories are in that playroom before and after school, in the yard playing tag, the Jetson's on tv followed by Starsky and Hutch on the chaise lounge, and the day she poured juice in my cereal instead of milk!!! As a kid I took it all for granted, as a teen I knew she was there in case of emergency, and as an adult I realize the impact Carol and your family has had in my life and the lives of many others. All of us are fortunate to have been touched by her gentle soul. Her smile shines bright in my eyes, her laugh rings strong in ears, her caring winks are etched in my heart, the smell of her fresh baked cookies makes me breath deep through my nose, and her gentle touch will be forever carried with me in my hands. I hope the laughter and love will carry you through these times and comfort you when think of her.
Love,
Missy

Thank you, Dick, Kristen & Joel….
As if opening your home to relative strangers wasn’t trying enough, you graciously shared your wonderful wife and mother with those fortunate of us, like myself, who came and went, but always felt a part of Carol’s extended daycare family. I’m grateful to you for that, and to Carol, for being a cornerstone in many of my earliest and still fondest memories. Hunting for crayfish, watching Jetsons morning cartoons, playing kickball or with Fritz, lipsyching to Twisted Sister…and Cyndi Lauper, or waiting for the Schwann’s Ice Cream truck—whatever the commotion, Carol could always take you aside and make you feel special, like no one else was there. I was too young then to know how to put together a proper thank you and, older now, I still don’t know if I can aptly express my gratitude. I hope that one day my own kids will have the same opportunity to be in the company of someone so warm, patient, and generous beyond recognition. She’ll be missed, but always remembered.
With warmest thoughts

To All of Carol's family:
God gave me the pleasure of meeting and working with Carol in the Special Ed Class at Dryden Middle School. Her love for the children there always touched my heart. I loved Carol and I will miss her. She always made me feel special. Her love for her family was contagious and I pray you will find joy in the memories you have of her. Remembering God's word that reads, "I will never leave you nor forsake you." You can trust in God to carry you through.

Dick, Kristen and Joel,
I will always remember Carol for her wonderful smile and the many funny conversations we had before and after football games. There wasn't a time when I met her, that no matter what she was going through, that she didn't have a smile on her face and a hug to give out. It was an honor to have known her. May God bless her.

Dick, Joel, and Kristin,
I am sad to hear the news of my most beloved babysitter. I was at home with my mother when I heard the news and spent a great amount of time recalling fond memories of my childhood with Carol, from the time she dressed me up for holloween as an indian, or her warm touch on repairing all my scrapes and bruises from playing with the bigger kids. I know she is missed by so many. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
