George Norman Obituary

GEORGE M. NORMAN JR.
GROTON - George M. Norman Jr., 72, of Devlen Road, Groton, NY, died Sunday, August 17, 2008, at his home.
Born July 27, 1936 in Ithaca, NY, he was the son of the late George M. Sr. and Elizabeth Turcsik Norman.
A lifelong resident of the area, he had been employed with Cargill Salt for over 42 years, retiring in 1996, and had also worked part-time at TC3, where he enjoyed being around the students and staff. George had been involved as Captain of the Fire Police in the Groton Fire Dept. and had been a member of the Lansing Fire Dept. He was an avid gun collector, enjoying his hunting and camping with the family, traveling when the opportunity came up, bowling on Ithaca leagues, tinkering on cars and putting his carpenter skills to good use.
He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Connie Lee Pataki Norman at home; his children, Deborah Lott, Tammy (Joel) Wheeler, George (Tina) Norman III, all of Groton, and Laura (Gary) Lash of Moravia; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Surviving are also his brothers, Randy Norman of Cortland, Donald Norman of Dryden, John Norman of Groton, and David and Ronald Norman, both of Lansing; his mother-in-law, Doris Pataki of Groton; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, several nieces and nephews survive him as well.
Services will be Wednesday, August 20, 2008, at 12:00 p.m. at the Groton Assembly of God. The family will receive friends from 11-12 prior to the service. Interment will be in the West Groton Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Groton Fire Dept. Ambulance Fund or Family and Children's Service of Ithaca, attn: Respite Program. Funeral arrangements are in the care of the Zirbel Funeral Home, 115 Williams St., Groton, NY.
