Josiah Boggs Obituary

JOSIAH (JOSH) C. BOGGS III
TRUMANSBURG, NY – Josiah (Josh) C. Boggs III passed on August 26, 2008 while piloting a barge down the Erie Canal with his wife of 61 years, Betty (Boo).
Josh was born in Seattle, WA, May 24, 1927. He served in the Coast Guard during WWII. He graduated from San Jose State University as an Engineer.
Josh's life was notable more for how he lived than what he did. He was a man of endless energy and zest for life; pursuing home remodeling, attending his grandsons' sporting events, and passionately building intricate wooden model ships.
Nothing meant more to Josh than his family, foremost his adored wife, Betty. After raising their family in Southern California, they moved to New Jersey. Josh and Betty retired to Trumansburg 19 years ago, where the two were inseparable and lived adventurously, traveling the world extensively.
Josh was actively involved in the lives of his grandsons, Josiah V and Duncan of Jacksonville, NY, and was a driving force to ensure a loving family relationship with his California grandsons, Luke and Kirk, and granddaughters, Julie and Kelsey.
Josh was a proud and loving father to his children, Josiah IV (Burbank, CA), Rebecca (Ventura, CA), and Michael (Jacksonville, NY), and embraced his son-in-law, Pierre, and daughter-in-law, Wendy, as his own.
Josh was a shining example to those around him of living passionately, energetically and lovingly. His youthful enthusiasm will be carried on by his loving family always. We love you Josh.
Josh was an avid reader and the family asks for contributions to the Josiah C. Boggs III Book Endowment at the Ulysses Philomathic Library, 74 East Main Street, Trumansburg, NY 14886, in lieu of flowers.
Visitation hours are at Ness-Sibley Funeral Home in Trumansburg, NY, on Wednesday, September 3, 2008, from 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Dear Betty- I'll bet Josh was having a blast on that barge!! He had such zeal for life and all that it offered. He will be missed, but that gleam in his eye will be remembered by those who knew him. So sorry Betty, I will pray for you and your family. Love, Robin from Dr. G's office.

Dear Boggs/Duncan families, so very sorry and sad to hear of your grandfather/father's passing. Josh was always a pleasure to see at hockey games - always there for his grandkids and family. Betty, our most deep sympathy. You were a great couple. Would that we all could be so lucky as couples as you were.
Many hugs to you all, Pam Hanna & the Menzenski family

Michael, Wendy, Josiah and Duncan~I am so sorry for your loss. What a shock!! It was always a pleasure to see MR. Boggs come pick up his grandkids from The Afterschool Program...the kids were overjoyed. He will truly be missed. If there is anything I can do, please let me know. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.
