ITHACA - John (Chick) F. Parr, 88, of 331 Bella Vista Dr., Ithaca (formerly 2490 Slaterville Rd., Slaterville Springs), passed away Saturday with family by his side.
Born, December 22, 1919, Brooklyn, NY, son of John W. Parr and Helen Eggers Parr. Graduated Richmond Hill High School 1938. Attended Cornell University, member Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity. Married Pheobe (Betty) Moore 1942.
A combat veteran of WWII serving as a Sergeant with the 100th and 36th Infantry Divisions in the European Theater from 1942 to 1945, receiving two battle stars. Upon discharge from the Army, worked for several years on the Barrett Farm in Slaterville. Became a member of the United Assoc. of Plumbers & Steamfitters from 1951 until his retirement in 1985.
Survived by his loving wife of 66 years, the former Pheobe (Betty) F. Moore; son, John (Betsy) F. Parr; daughters, Penny (Ben) Boynton, Betsy Parr and Merrilee Parr; grandchildren, Michelle (Jon) Goldberg, Jennifer Parr (Paul Mutolo), Pheobe Boynton, Rachel Boynton and Hart ParrDalPra; great-grandchildren, Sam and Jake Goldberg. He will be greatly missed by his friends and extended family.
Family and friends may call 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Bangs Funeral Home, 209 West Green Street, Ithaca. Services will be held at the Church of the Immaculate Conception at 10 a.m. on Thursday. Burial will be in East Hill Cemetery, Ithaca following services.
Contributions may be made to Hospicare and Palliative Care Services of Tompkins County or the American Heart Association.

betty and family,
so sorry to hear of "chicks" passing. i will never forget the friendship and advice(bowling,plumbing and union) that he taught me over the thirty odd years that i knew him.we have lost a wonderful man and a great friend

I probably read the Ithaca Journal once a year, maybe. I was sorry to learn of your father's passing a few days ago. The loss of a parent is very painful and my heart goes out to you and your family. Your father was always very kind to me and I will remember him with fondness.
