Jessie Loomis Obituary

JESSIE R. LOOMIS
ITHACA- Jessie R. Loomis, 92, of 560 Elm Street, Ithaca, NY, passed away at Cayuga Medical Center on September 9, 2008.
Jessie was born on a farm in North Spencer, one of 10 children of Frank and Phebe Jane Hulbert. The family sold the farm and moved to Ithaca when she was in her teens.
In 1939, Jessie married Karl Chupp, son of Dr. Charles Chupp and Nora Mae Chupp of Forest Home. Dr. Chupp, a professor at Cornell University, was one of the worlds foremost experts on vegetable diseases. Karl was a service station owner and mechanic, and Jessie was a housewife and retired from the Tompkins County Department of Social Services. They had two children, David Chupp, who now lives in Weems, Virginia, and Carol Withers, who now lives in Woodbury, New Jersey. After 35 years of marriage, Karl passed away in 1974.
In 1986, Jessie married Victor Loomis, a retired Cornell University plumber, who survives her. She is also survived by her two children, six grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and her sister, Grace Niles. Jessie enjoyed a full and rich life with her two husbands, children, and the rest of her large family, and passed away peacefully with family members at her bedside.
Perkins Funeral Home assisted the family, and a memorial service will be scheduled for a later date.
