Eunice Chazeau Obituary

EUNICE de CHAZEAU, AGE 103
ALEXANDRIA, VA - Eunice Storey de Chazeau, 103, died in her sleep of congestive heart failure on September 18 at the Hermitage retirement community in Alexandria, Virginia.
Mrs. de Chazeau, a native of Seattle, held bachelor's and master's degrees in English from the University of Washington. She was the author of "Of Houses and Cats," a novel published by Random House in 1965, and "Born Permeable," poems published in 1992, among others. She continued to write poetry well into her nineties.
She settled in Northern Virginia after the death of her husband, Melvin G. de Chazeau, a founding faculty member of the Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell University, in 1985. The de Chazeaus lived in Ithaca from 1948 until 1984. The couple traveled widely in Europe and the United States and lived in Denmark when Mr. de Chazeau was a Fulbright scholar. Mrs. de Chazeau continued to travel in this country and abroad until shortly after her 100th birthday.
Mrs. de Chazeau was a longtime member of the National League of American Pen Women, the League of Women Voters and Kappa Alpha Theta sorority.
She is survived by a daughter, Marian Holmes of Alexandria; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
The family asks that memorial contributions be directed to the Melvin G. de Chazeau Scholarship Fund #255803, Cornell University, Box 223623, Pittsburgh, PA, 15251-2623.
