Lillian Kuppinger Obituary

LILLIAN RAUBER KUPPINGER
ITHACA - Lillian Rauber Kuppinger, 95, of Ithaca, died of natural causes at Kendal of Ithaca on Monday, November 12, 2007. She was born in Rochester, New York, the daughter of the late John and Anna Lynch Rauber.
She attended the State University of New York at Brockport, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Child Development. She continued her education at New York University and the State University of New York at Cortland where she received a Masters of Education.
Lillian was a teacher in the Ithaca City School District for over forty years. During World War II, she was a principal at West Hill School and she later taught at East Hill School, South Hill School, and ended her career at Cayuga Heights School. She was a demonstration teacher for Cornell University, helped plan district-wide teacher training programs, and was past American Education Week chairperson for the Ithaca City Schools.
She was an active member of the Garden Club of Ithaca, the PEO, the Women's Club of Ithaca, Hospital Aid, the Ithaca Country Club, Ithaca Yacht Club, and the Statler Club.
Lillian was married to the late John Kuppinger for fifty-four years. Her two daughters, Joliane Schroeder of Pittsburgh, PA and Margaret Bruzelius of Cambridge, MA, survive her. She also has three grandchildren, Augustus Schroeder of Pittsburgh, PA, Joliane Theobald of Albuquerque, NM, and Emilie Bruzelius of Somerville, MA. She has one great-grandchild, Jackson Theobald of Albuquerque, NM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lillian's name to the Kuppinger Prize. This prize is awarded annually to an Ithaca High School Junior who has demonstrated the often-unrecognized qualities of kindness, fairness, generosity, and consideration for others through volunteer service to the school and the Ithaca community. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, December 10, 2007, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Catherine's of Siena Church. There are no calling hours. Private burial will be at Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Bangs Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.

Liilian and John were both great friends of the Blanchards. Lillian was a beautiful lady both outside and from within and we will all miss the posative outlook she brought to every encounter. Many sympathies to her family for this great loss from the entire Blanchard family.
