Anthony Albanese Obituary

ANTHONY J. ALBANESE
Anthony J. Albanese, lifelong resident of Newfield, New York, died on 10 December 2007 at home with his loving family by his side. He was born in Kane, Pennsylvania in 1922, and was the son of Ralph and Antoinette Albanese, the youngest of eight children. Tony, as everyone knew him, grew up in Newfield, and served with the 3rd Army in Europe during World War Two. After the war, he started Albanese Plumbing and Heating Company, which continues today. An avid sportsman, he enjoyed golf, hunting, and fishing, which he continued until recently. In the 1960's he enlisted in the Construction Battalion of the United States Navy Reserve. Tony earned the rank of Chief Petty Officer until he retired in the mid 1980's. Tony was proud of his service with the Army and Navy and of his contributions to our country. He was formerly married to Bernice B. Drader, who passed away in 1980. Tony's first priority in life was always his family. We all will dearly miss his laughter, his compassion, and his unconditional love.
Tony is survived by his wife, Irene J. (Hubbell) Albanese. He is also survived by his children, Rick and Deborah (Delgado) Albanese of Long Island, NY, Michael and Pamela (Snow) Albanese of Webster, NY, Marc and Virginia (Shriner) Albanese of Ithaca, NY, Dean T. Albanese of Newfield, NY, and Valerie A. Albanese of Newfield, NY. He is also survived by stepchildren, Robert (Barbara) Hubbell of Watkins Glen, NY, Bruce (Ligia) Hubbell of Pleasanton, CA, Brian (Lois) Hubbell of Alpine, NY, Gena (Curt) Edsall of Lake Ridge, VA, Brent (Elizabeth) Hubbell of Glen Rose, TX, Blaine Hubbell of Montour Falls, NY, and Julie (Joe) Collins of Beaver Dams, NY. Tony is survived by 13 grandchildren, 14 step grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, seven step great-grandchildren, and numerous extended family members.
Calling hours will be at Bangs Funeral Home Inc., 209 W. Green St., Ithaca, NY from 2PM to 5PM on Friday, December 14, 2007. A memorial service for the immediate family will follow the calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations in his honor can be made to the Newfield Historical Society, or Hospicare and Pallative Care Services of Tompkins County. Interment with military honors will be held at Calvary Cemetery in the spring.

To all: Uncle Tony's my second "Dad" and I will miss him terribly. Our Chritmas here in Florida won't be the same without him sitting at our table. He and my Dad (Sam) and Frank were quite a trio. Our family Thanksgivings and 4th-of-July's where we were all together as children are some of the best memories that I have . . I love you all and know that right now, those three Albanese "boys" are sitting in heaven comparing the size of that last buck they each got! My love and thoughts are with you all,

To The Albanese Family
My sincere condolences in your loss.
I grew up in Newfield on Main Street
went to school their also. Left, but came back to Newfield for some time, but chose to reside in Ithaca, N.Y. My mother, Lillian and my 2 siblings (Edwin & Katherine) and myself knew the Albanese family very well.

My prayers go out to the Albanese Family and all who carry great memories of Grandpa Tony. I'd like to share with you my memory that is close to my heart. I had the pleasure of hunting with Grandpa Tony many years back...an Albanese tradition! I was a city boy from Upstate, NY and married his granddaughter Candace from Upstate, NY. It was my first time out hunting with the family and I was lucky enough to have sit on the adjoining "white bucket" next to Grandpa Tony...I was inspired to say the least. See...he was the KING of the hunting crew...older and wiser than the rest of us...and it was his land. So we sat on the buckets waiting for the deer to be pushed to us. We sat for 1 hour maybe ...and chatted, chewed on some tootsie rolls and had some good laughs. Well, it wasn't about hunting...it was about knowing and sharing moments with great people...Grandpa Tony! It was about building a family tradition. It only took that one moment...just a few minutes in those woods ....on one cold late afternoon in November to be so lucky and inspired by a man who I and others alike will share our memories of him for many lifetimes to come!
