ELIZABETH (BETTY WRIGHT) HEYSTEK
FT. MYERS, FL - Elizabeth (Betty Wright) Heystek, 87, passed away on November 8, 2007, while under Hospicare in Ft. Myers, FL. She suffered from cancer the past 3 years.
Born in Ithaca, NY, October 23, 1920, to Arthur and Pauline (Marshall) Wright. Betty attend the Enfield Center Grade School in the 1930's and later graduated from Ithaca High School. While a teenager, she sang in the girl's choir in St. John's Episcopal Church, Ithaca. During and after high school she worked in her parents bowling alley on Main St. in Trumansburg. In the 1950's she and her husband, Gordon (Mickey) Chapman and two sons moved to Ft. Myers, FL. After working there for several years they moved to the Virgin Islands where they lived for many years. She was a member of Odessa American Legion Auxiliary, St. John's Church, Ithaca, St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Ft. Myers, FL. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Francis Patrick; two sisters, Alice Peabody, Patricia VanTassel; and a brother, Marshall; by former husbands, Gordon Chapman and Richard Heystek. She is survived by two sons, Barrett (Irene) Chapman, Durham, ME, Jay Chapman, Ft. Myers, FL; a brother, Harold (Sue) Wright, Trumansburg, NY; three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
There will be a Memorial Service at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Ft. Myers, FL, January 19th at 10:30 a.m. where she will be put to rest in St. Luke's Memorial Garden. Contributions in Betty's memory may be made to St. Luke's Church, 2635 Cleveland Ave., Ft. Myers, FL 33909, or to Hope Hospice, North Ft. Myers, FL, 2430 Diplomat Parkway East, Cape Coral, FL 33909.
