Burton Sherman Obituary
ITHACA - Burton D. "Tony" Sherman, 82, of Ithaca, died Tuesday, December 11, 2007, at Cayuga Medical Center. Born September 20, 1925 in Virgil, he was the son of the late Vernon L. and Pauline G. Polley Sherman.
Tony worked several years for Harry Strong's International Harvester Sales in Groton and Ridley Book Bindery in Ithaca before becoming the owner and operator of Sherman's Mobil Service Station in Ithaca for more than 20 years. He enjoyed bowling, boating, and working in his yard.
Mr. Sherman is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jean Ridley Sherman; daughter, Linda (Norman) Watt of Wilmington, NC; granddaughter, Carrie (Joseph) Landon of Odessa; great-grandson, Tristan Landon; brothers-in-law, Paul R. Ridley, Donald J. (Marian) Ridley, both of Lansing, and Douglas S. (Frances) Ridley of Ithaca. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Ruth Curtis, Evelyn Westfall and Beverly Berlew.
In respecting Tony's wishes, there will be no public calling hours. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial, delayed until spring, will be in East Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice. Arrangements are by the E.C. Wagner Funeral Home of Ithaca. www.ecwagnerfuneralhome.com.
