Andrew M. Kizer Sr. of Salem Twp., formerly of Madison Twp., died Sunday morning at VNA Hospice at Geisinger Community Medical Center following an illness. His wife, the former Sharon Batzel, died in 1997.
Born in Jefferson Twp., son of the late Joseph and Pearl Cowell Kizer, he owned and operated a dairy farm and worked for Case Tire and Service and Sandone Tire. He was a former member of Madisonville Volunteer Fire Company, Mountain Monitor CB Club and Elmhurst Men's Bowling League.
For more than 28 years, he was a foster parent, caring for a total of 53 children, and he opened his home to many more in emergency situations.
Also surviving are sons, Andrew Jr. and wife, Jan; and Stephen, both of Dunmore; a great-niece and caretaker, Nellie Zawicki, Lake Ariel; sisters, Ethel Bisignani, Scranton; and Doris Fuller, Avoca; a brother, Gordon, Jefferson Twp.; grandchildren, Andrew, Jeremy and Hailey Kizer; great-grandchildren, Logan and Natalie Kizer; and a companion, Iva Kizer.
He was also preceded in death by a nephew, Duane; and brothers, Harry, Joseph and Norman.
The family would like to thank Traditional Home Health and Hospice.
Funeral services will be Friday at 10 a.m. in the James Wilson Funeral Home, 143 Gravity Road, Lake Ariel. Interment, Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.
