Mary E. Curatola, 85, Jermyn, died Thursday at the Carbondale Nursing Home. Her husband is Domenick Curatola. She and Domenick recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
Born in Carbondale, the daughter of the late William and Mary Kelly Bergan, she was a graduate of Marywood Seminary and Lackawanna Business College.
Her family was the center of her world. She made a tradition of baking for each of her grandchildren their favorite goodie for their birthdays. She loved to decorate for every holiday. She had a great devotion to the Blessed Mother and prayed the Rosary several times a day. When her health permitted, she attended daily Mass at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Church.
The family would like to thank the Carbondale Nursing Home Medical team for their compassion, care and professionalism while Mary was a resident at their facility.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary Ann Nolan and husband, Robert, Greenfield; Kimberly Terpak and husband, Thomas, Jermyn; a first cousin, Richard Bergan; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a sister, Frances Bergan; and a brother, William Bergan Jr.
The funeral will be Monday at 9:30 a.m. from the Battenberg Funeral Home, 363 Washington Ave., Jermyn, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10, to be celebrated by Bishop John Dougherty. Interment, Calvary Cemetery.
A viewing will be from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
