Sophie T. Jimcosky, 91, passed into the arms of our Lord on Jan. 16, 2019. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Andrew P. Jimcosky.
Born in Dickson City on Bell Mountain, daughter of the late Joseph and Lenore (Kujawski) Golembiewski, Sophie was known as the keystone of her family, since she was born sixth in a family of 11 siblings. She attended Jefferson School, North Scranton Junior High School and Dickson City High School. As a young woman, she worked at Speedway Restaurant and Brook Manufacturing Co., where she made military uniforms during World War II. She later worked at Berwick Offray and Bonham Nursing Home.
She was a longtime member of St. Martha's Church in Fairmount Springs, where she belonged to the Women's Club. A prolific heirloom gardener, she was also a crochet artisan, gifting her creations to family, friends and charity raffles. Sophie was the family domino champion, puzzle expert and card game pro.
Sophie is survived by five children, Theresa Barrett (Joseph), Clarks Summit; Andrew Jimcosky (Carolyn), Flemington, N.J.; Jeanne Johnson (Donald), Millville; Thomas Jimcosky (Peggie), Fairmount Springs; John Jimcosky (Kerry), Fairmount Springs; eight grandchildren, Erin Barrett DeCicco (Anthony); Melissa and Brian Johnson; Dr. Shana Barrett Zeitlin (Attorney Brett); Allison, Andrea and Amanda Jimcosky; Kara Jimcosky; and great-grandson, Troy Zeitlin.
Sophie was also preceded in death by her siblings, Mary, Charlotte, Myron, Emilie, Michael, Stanley, Charles, Louise, Barbara and Peter. Most recently, she was predeceased by an infant great-grandson, Anthony Barrett DeCicco, whom she promised to hold in her arms in heaven.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Martha's Roman Catholic Church, 260 Bonnieville Road, Fairmount Springs, on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2019, at 10 a.m. with Father Joseph Kakareka officiating. Interment will follow at St. Martha's Cemetery, Fairmount Springs.
Family will receive friends on Monday, Jan. 21, 2019, from 5 until 8 p.m. at the Rodger T. Bunnell Funeral Home, 435 Market St., Bloomsburg.
