Samuel J. Weibel, 72, of O'Fallon, Mo., formerly of Scranton, died July 1 after an illness. He was married to Donna Dutson Weibel for 39 years until her death in 2017.
He was the son of the late Irving J. Weibel and Angelica Genett Weibel. He graduated from Scranton Technical High School in 1966 where he was a member of the marching band alongside his twin brother, Bill. Afterward, he served in the United States Navy. After leaving the Navy, he followed Bill out to Missouri where he made a career in law enforcement, retiring as assistant chief at the Dellwood Police Department.
He was an advocate train lover starting when he was a child. His other love was RVing with Donna. Family was everything to Sam, coming back to Scranton as often as possible to be with them.
He is survived by four sons; brothers, Wayne, Scranton; and Bill, Missouri; a sister, Wendy, Scranton; a granddaughter and grandson; several nieces, a nephew and cousins.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Richard, in 2009.
