Ronald Miller, North Scranton, died Thursday morning at home after being stricken ill. His wife of 54 years is the former Mary Karen McDonnell.
Born in Scranton in 1939, he was the son of the late Charles and Lucille Jenkins Miller and was a graduate of the Scranton Technical High School. Before his retirement, he had been employed by the Scranton School District for 50 years in the maintenance department, working from Memorial Stadium. He served honorably in the United States Navy with the Seabees. During his time of service some of the locations he was stationed were the South Pole and Greece.
Ron was a generous man who loved his family and friends. There was nothing more he loved than sharing time with his grandchildren, Aidan and Reagan, during their trips to the Downtown Deli for Saturday morning breakfasts, Starbucks and Mannings. They will miss him deeply and hold his memory in their hearts forever.
The family would like to thank Dr. Gerard Nealon and his staff, along with Dr. John Kutz and his staff, especially Kathy and Melanie, for the exceptional and dedicated care they all afforded Ron.
Also surviving are a daughter, Amy Kearney and her husband, Colin, of Dunmore; a son, Kevin Miller and his wife, Karen, of Scranton; a brother, Scott Miller and his wife, Susan, of Peckville; grandchildren, Aidan and Reagan Kearney, and Shane Miller; great-granddaughters; a sister-in-law, Christine Dietz and her husband, Patrick; nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Marilyn Jones; and a brother, Charles Miller.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, 801 Taylor Ave., Scranton, by the Rev. Patrick McLaughlin, pastor.
All CDC guidelines, including the mandatory use of facial coverings and proper social distancing, will be strictly enforced. Please refrain from all physical contact with the family.
Interment, private and at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family strongly encourages memorial contributions be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 3551 N. Broad St., Philadelphia, PA 19140.
