Irene Lubneski, 102, died peacefully at St. Mary's Villa Nursing Home where she happily resided for the past eight years.
She was born in Scranton on Dec. 26, 1917. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Chipalouskas Greblunas and the widow of Michael L. Lubneski.
Educated in Scranton public schools, she worked as a seamstress and was a member of ILGWU. Irene was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Dunmore. She enjoyed dining out, polka dancing, Canada trips in the summer and winter vacations in Florida.
Irene is survived by her daughter, Sandra Capooci; four grandsons, Victor (Evelyn), Michael, Matthew (Kathleen) and Mark (Tracey); nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and four devoted nieces.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank Scott and Edward Greblunas; two sisters, Lillian Klimitis and Margaret Oldakowski; nephew, Richard Klimitis; and her son-in-law, Victor J. Capooci.
Heartfelt thanks to the entire staff at St. Mary's Villa Nursing Home for the wonderful loving care she received by everyone, to Dr. Robert Kaville, her attending physician, and a special thank you to Tom Possinger who always made her smile. She was very content living at the Villa.
Private funeral services will be held with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church, Dunmore. Interment in Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.
