Thomas J. Costello of Scranton died Wednesday at Geisinger CMC following a brief illness. His wife of 50 years is the former Sandra Marie Knight.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Thomas P. "Tucker" and Naomi Smith Costello. Educated in Scranton schools, he proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam era. In the military, he furthered his education, learning radiology and mechanics. He served as a member of the Military Police. Before retirement, he was employed for many years by Anemostat.
Tom enjoyed bowling at South Side Bowling lanes, along with shooting pool, and was the president of Scranton Pool League. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Also surviving are children, Dawn and Lee Slota, Colleen and Tony Christiano, Thomas and Heather Costello, and Tyrone and Unique Knight; grandchildren, Samantha Slota, Brittany and Tom Irwin, Antoinette Christiano, Tommy Costello, Kahmyra Knight, Alyssa Costello and Kyree Knight; great-grandchildren, Caleb Gamble and Casey Bingham; sister, Kathy Barber; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by grandchildren, Nathan Costello and Jamie Costello; and brothers, Daniel and Paul Costello.
Private funeral arrangements and on-site cremation are under the care and direction of the Miller Bean Funeral Home Inc., 436 Cedar Ave., Scranton. Interment with military honors will be held in Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst, at a later date.
