Denise Marie Goldyn, 53, of Berwyn, Pa., passed into eternal life on March 16, 2021 (her Baba's birthday), surrounded by family at her home.
Denise was born Sept. 25, 1967, in Peckville and attended St. Mary's Visitation School in Dickson City, and was a member of the parish. She graduated from Bishop O'Hara in 1985 and Lackawanna Junior College in 1987. She then went away to college in the Philadelphia area, attending LaSalle Academy and Temple University, studying communications. Her love for Philly and the city grew, and she made her home there and resided there for the past 30 years.
She worked in retail and as a nanny and caregiver for many years and volunteered at the public library and local animal shelter. Denise enjoyed life and loved spending time with her furry friends and took in and cared for abandoned animals. She is now back in the company of her beloved dog, Buddy.
Denise is survived by her father, Chester T. Goldyn, Batesburg, S.C., and her mother, Nancy M. Roman; sister, Darlene Goldyn Leese, Dickson City; her niece and godchild, Brianna M. Fleming and husband, Andrew Fleming, Chicago; nephew, Brenden J. Leese, Dickson City; and her godmother, Elaine Goldyn Santarelli.
She was preceded in death by her godfather, Martin J. Cucura; paternal grandparents, Chester and Ceil Goldyn; and maternal grandparents, Martin and Mary Cucura. She is survived by David Nicholas Dix, her loving companion for the past 20 years with whom she resided.
Denise's battle was short and hard but she fought it with courage and dignity. Denise's wishes after death were to donate to Humanity Gift Registry, a nonprofit agency of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania concerned with receipt, distribution and donation to local medical and dental schools for the purpose of teaching in the state of Pennsylvania. Denise sought to provide teaching opportunities to students at Temple University in her final act of life.
Family, friends and others whose lives Denise has touched are invited to attend a funeral Mass to be celebrated on April 5 at 10 a.m. at the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Dickson City. Those unable to attend may view the funeral services live at http://www.facebook.com/vbvmc. The family would like to thank Fr. Clarke from St. Monica's parish and the staff at Mainline Hospice in Healthcare.
