Joseph Robert Gillette, 75, of Winnabow, N.C., and formerly of West Scranton, died July 1, 2021, after a lengthy illness with his family at his side. His wife of 56 years is Marjorie Boyle Gillette.
Born in Scranton, son of the late Harvey and Lenore Riviello Gillette, he was educated in West Scranton High School and then entered the United States Air Force. Initially, Joe was employed by Gress Poultry in Scranton. After having moved to North Carolina in 1981 he was employed by CP&L and later, retired from Duke Energy.
His family feels he always taught by example and was one of the strongest people they have ever known. He always put spiritual things and his family first. Joe was extremely patient and never raised his voice. He worked hard to take care of his family, not only physically but spiritually. The children never felt like they had to fear making mistakes. He listened and did his best to guide them. They loved him with all their hearts.
Also surviving are nine children; 17 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert Gillette Sr., and wife, Janice Ferri Gillette, of Old Forge; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Salvatore Amicizia, of Long Island, N.Y.
