Albert J. Mathewson, 86, of Greenfield Twp. died Tuesday morning at Regional Hospital after an illness. His wife is the former Rosellen Turissini Mathewson. The couple would have celebrated 40 years of marriage in December.
Born in Dunmore, he was the son of the late Albert and Alberta Mathewson. Al graduated from Dunmore High School and was employed by Frito Lay as a truck driver prior to his retirement. Albert served his country, joining the United States Navy during the Korean War.
He was a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be dearly missed. Al loved the Chicago Cubs, New York Giants and was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed doing crossword puzzles everyday, movies and mowing his lawn on his tractor.
Also surviving are his daughter, Maria Harris and fiancé, Donald Butchar, Clarks Summit; his grandson, Brendon Harris and wife Amanda; his stepchildren, Lisa Winter, Lynn Fofi and Ronald LaSota; seven step-grandchildren; and two great-step-grandchildren; his brother-in-law, Leo Turissini and wife Patti; a sister-in-law, Joan Slacktich and husband Bill; several nieces, nephews and cousins; two brothers and one sister.
The family would like to especially thank Dr. Neil M. Davis for 40 years of kind and compassionate care, Rick White for all his help and Donald Butchar for going above and beyond. Al also had a furry friend, Sara.
The funeral will be on Monday with a blessing service at 5 p.m. at Louis M. Margotta Funeral Home, 511 Church St., Jessup. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
