Daniel Tedone Obituary

Daniel S. Tedone, of Mystic, Conn., died at home on June 19, 2008, after a two-year battle with pancreatic cancer.
Dan was born on Aug. 31, 1948, in Hartford. He attended Hartford's South Catholic High School, where he first met his wife-to-be, Maria Alves. After serving with the U.S. Navy in Vietnam, he received his B.A. and M.B.A. from the University of Connecticut on the G.I. Bill.
He and Maria married on Dec. 11, 1971, and raised two devoted daughters. The family lived for many years in Marshfield, Mass., where Dan worked in the environmental industry. His last assignment was as President and CFO of Thermatrix Corp., in Knoxville, Tenn.
Most recently, Dan was enthusiastically enjoying a second career teaching at Quinebaug Valley Community College. Sharing the depth of his business and life experience with his students was an apt expression of Dan's dynamic, determined, yet caring approach to life.
He enjoyed playing golf, traveling, and reading the biographies of historical figures. Every Sunday, he tackled – and usually conquered – the New York Times Sunday crossword puzzle, an activity which became a weekly ritual involving any visiting family and friends. He prized his close-knit, loving family above all else in life, and was a generous and loyal friend. Even during the difficult years of his illness, he continued to inspire all who met him with his calm resolve and strength of spirit.
Daniel Tedone is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Maria (Alves) Tedone; his daughters, Melissa A. Tedone and Emily R. Tedone; his devoted mother, Margaret (Battistone) Okolita, and her husband, Eugene Okolita; his dear and caring sister, Marci (Tedone) Limberger; his brother, David Tedone; nephew Andrew Grzybowski and many dear aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, June 24, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Mystic Funeral Home, Route 1, Mystic, with a Mass of Christian Burial immediately following at St. Patrick Church, Route 1, Mystic at 1 p.m. Interment with military honors will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, River Rd., Mystic.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Daniel S. Tedone Fund benefiting the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, or to Hospice of Southeastern Connecticut, whose kind and devoted staff provided invaluable support and care to Dan and his family. Donations to the Daniel S. Tedone Fund can be made by phone at (877) 272-6226, by mail or online at www.pancan.org/Donate/donateby.html. Gary Doan

November 17, 2008

My name is Gary Doan. I served with Dan in Danang, Vietnam back in 1968-69. We spent some time together on R&R to Hong Kong in May of 69. I made the Naby a career and he went back home to his family. I have always kept him in my mind over these years, remembering him as a humorous, quiet, gentle guy with a facinating little sparkle in his eye. I regret that I was never able to reunite with him again. A few years ago I looked him up on line. I figured I would get out there one of these days and would give him a call. I was checking back on line to see what was new and I was shocked and saddened to learn he had passed. He made a very positive lasting impression on me frome the time I met him and I can imagine that he will be greatly missed by the others who have known him over the past 40 years since I last saw him. My thoughts and prayers are with you all as you adapt to life without him. May God grant him eternal rest in his perpetual light and may he rest in peace.

I used to clean the chalk board before his class. He was always so appreciative. Was sad to hear of his illness, and may he rest in peace and God Bless his family.

My deepest sympathy to Daniel Tedone's family. I had the pleasure of working with Dan for a short time, however, during that time I learned so much from him. He was so willing to share all he knew that I'm sure made each of us a better person. God Bless You Dan.
