Rosamund Barber Obituary

Rosamund C. Barber, 76, of Sea Breeze Avenue, Quonochontaug, died peacefully in her home on the evening of Nov 29, 2007.
She had struggled for many years with several ailments and had fought valiantly to recover from heart surgery in May. She was blessed to spend her final months at home surrounded by her family and friends.
She was the wife of the late Donald C. Barber and is survived by three children, Janet of Santa Cruz, Calif., Susan of Quonochontaug and Geoffrey of Hong Kong.
She resided in Barrington for 40 years before relocating to Quonochontaug in 2000. She leaves three grandchildren, Katy and Eric Barber of Barrington and Trevor Ruggeri of Santa Cruz.
Roz was born in New Bedford, Mass., to the late Harold and Constance Connolly and is survived by her brother Selden Connolly of Braintree, Mass.
She graduated from Lincoln School in Providence and from Connecticut College in New London with a degree in biology. Before starting a family she worked for several years in the biology department at Brown University while Donald completed his undergraduate degree.
She had a deep love of classical music which brought her much peace and inspiration in her final months. In recent years, she had taken up many handicrafts, particularly needlepoint. She created many masterpieces that adorn her house. She took great joy from working in her garden. Roz also loved the game of bridge, and continued playing with a wide array of friends until her dying day.
There will be a memorial service on Tuesday, Dec 11, at 11 a.m. at Dunn's Corners Community Church Presbyterian, 221 Post Road, Westerly.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Home and Hospice Care of RI, 169 George St., Pawtucket, RI 02860.

My condolences to Sue, Geoff and Janet. I was fortunate to join them for a number of family excursions, and they were the greatest family I have ever known. The weekend ski trips from Barrington to the Balsams come to mind, when we would all pile into the yellow VW (how did we fit?). Ros would always make sure we had lunch and plenty of warm clothes and keep an eye on us. Other memories that come to mind are family meals and projects at the beach house, sailing on the Pearson, dinners at the Scottish Lion, stopping at the Howard Johnsons on the way north, or just drives around RI and Don insisting to Ros "we're not lost!" They were wonderful people, very kind to me, and I am thankful to have known them. My thoughts are with you all.

Thinking of you and remembering happier times. Your mother, I recall, was very pleasant and kind to me and I see her "always smiling" face in my memories.
