Carrie McCracken Obituary

Carrie Lynn McCracken

Carrie was born in Eureka, CA on October 26, 1957. She passed from this life on March 17, 2009, with her family at her side.

Carrie lived her childhood on Chestnut Street in Eureka, Ca until she married at the age of eighteen. She attended Lafayette Elementary School, Zane Junior High and Eureka High School until her graduation in 1975. Carrie often talked about her childhood years playing on the bars at the Lafayette playground and the hours she would spend swimming with her best friend Deanna at the Braud family pool. She often told of the kids doing chores for Mr. B; one hour work in trade for one hour of swimming.

After marrying, Carrie started a career with Pac Bell. She earned her way to call center manager until an early retirement due to company downsizing after 15 years. Carrie made many lifelong friends while at Pac Bell. Eventually Carrie continued her career as office administrator for the Mitchell firm and most recently she worked for the County of Humboldt.

On June 5, 1976 Carrie married the love of her life, Larry. They set an example for many people of how a perfect love can be. Their fairy tale love endured the test of time, and their bond grew stronger and stronger over nearly 33 years of marriage.

In 1984 Carrie and Larry welcomed their first child, Cameron Lee, and one year later Ashley Dawn was born. Carrie’s family was the light of her life. It sometimes seemed as though her whole mission in life was their happiness. She seldom put herself first. She loved spending time with both of her children, and many of their friends could often be found spending time at the McCracken house . Carrie loved family traditions. She made sure that holidays and birthdays were always extra special.

Carrie always had pets and had a tendency to spoil them rotten. As a young girl, she used to dress her cocker, Candy Mae in baby clothes and ride her around in a basket on her bicycle at Lafayette. Her most recent buddy, her dog K.J.Mon was her little fearless protector, and Carrie loved to spoil her little man with belly rubs.

Carrie was preceded in death by her Mom and Dad, Roberta and Leroy Felthauser, Grandmother Clara Koval, Grandmother Stella Rich, mother-n-law Velma McCracken and her Brother-n-law Ron McCracken.

Carrie leaves behind her husband Larry, son Cameron, and daughter Ashley. She is also survived by her brother and sister-n-law Mike and Ida Felthauser of Eureka, sister Debbie Jack of Reno, brother-n-law Tim McCracken and his wife Amy of Loleta. She leaves behind nephew Steven Felthauser and his wife, Amy, nieces Jennifer Jack, Rhonda and Shanna McCracken, Kaylie and Kori McCracken, nephew Jeremy McCracken and numerous extended family and friends.

The family would like to thank all those who participated with such care and love during Carrie’s treatment. As many know, Carrie was a very private person and chose to endure her struggles on her own. Carrie’s life here may be done but her gentle spirit, unconditional love, loyalty and caring for those close to her will live on forever.

A gathering honoring Carrie’s life is planned for 2pm-4pm, Saturday, March 21, 2009, at the Wharfinger building on Waterfront Drive in Eureka.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Friends For Life Canine Rescue, P.O. Box 962 Eureka, CA 95502. Donations may also be made to Hospice of Humboldt, 2010 Myrtle Ave. Eureka, CA 95501.
