Edith Hamsher Obituary

Edith Mildred Hamsher, 84, of Dover died Monday, Oct. 5, 2009, at Union Hospital surrounded by her loving family. We all take comfort in knowing she has been welcomed into heaven.
Born May 16, 1925, in Killbuck, O., she was a daughter of the late William and Nellie Phillips Richards. Edith was also preceded in death by her first husband, Rollin Hamsher, who was killed in action during World War II and her second husband, John Hamsher, who died on Jan. 29, 2002; infant son, Bruce Wynn Hamsher; half brother, Elmo Richards; and three sisters, Thelma Troyer, Viola Fross and Ruth Fuller; and beloved stepfather, Paul McKee.
She was a very active member with the First Moravian Church in Dover where she helped to organize outreach ministries, was a Circle Leader for many years, served as VP of the Women's Fellowship and was involved in the CCL Women's League. Edith was also a member of the Delphian Study Club, Winfield Grange, the 4-H adviser of the "Willing Workers" and a Girl Scout Leader. In her spare time, Edith enjoyed working with her hands, either in the garden, working crossword and jigsaw puzzles or making ceramics.
A devoted and dedicated wife, mother and grandmother, Edith will be sadly missed by her daughters, Karen (husband, Paul) Townsend of Cutler, O., and Beverly Hamsher of Canton; sons, Kevin (wife, Mickey) Hamsher of Dover and Joel (wife, Teri) Hamsher of Fairlawn; half brother, Gilbert (wife, Elsie) Richards of Mount Vernon, O.; half sister, Phyliss (husband, Elmer) Giauque of Killbuck; five grandchildren, Jennifer Townsend, Carla and Jacob Milo Hamsher, Kristin and Laura Weigand. Lastly, Edith will be missed by her friends. She had an outgoing personality and made many dear friends over the years, especially the past three years when she was a resident at Park Village.
Faith was an important part of Edith's life, and she used it to encourage others. (Psalm 116 verse 15, "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saint.")
A celebration of Edith's life will be held on Friday, Oct. 9, 2009, at 11 a.m. in the First Moravian Church in Dover with Pastor Bruce Hamsher officiating. Interment will be in the Dover Burial Park. Friends can call in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Homes and Crematory at Dover on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m.
Those wishing to express their fondest memories of Edith may do so by visiting the on line obituaries link on the funeral home's Web site.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Moravian Church at 319 N. Walnut St., Dover, O. 44622.

Joel,
When I reread my note I realized I didn't put your name on it. Please forgive me! My thoughts and prayers include you in every way. All of you have been such a special part of my life and I certainly didn't leave you off on purpose. God bless you, Joel, as you and your sisters and brother adjust to life without your mom, knowing you will see her again one day.

Karen, Bev, and Kevin,
I am so sorry to read of your mom's passing. Many of my best memories have her in them. I loved hanging out at the Hamsher house and she always made me feel like one of the family.
I know that we do not grieve like those who have no hope. Yet I also know that the grief is real. May God be your strength today and in the days and weeks ahead. And may you find comfort in the love you have for each other.
My love to you all. You will be in my prayers.
