Warren Eddy Obituary

Warren D. Eddy, Jr. died peacefully Thursday, October 29, 2009. He was born in Portland, Maine on September 19, 1921 to Warren and Marion Eddy. After graduating from Deering High School, he attended Bowdoin College, then went on to Tufts Medical School for his medical degree. He joined the U.S. Army and did his medical residency in orthopedic surgery at Boston General Hospital. While there, he met Elizabeth Regan, and they married in December, 1945. Following his residency, they moved back to Portland where they started their family. Over the next nine years, the Army sent them to many places, but the family finally settled in Tucson in September of 1956. He joined the staff of the Veteran's Administration Hospital before opening a private practice. He was on staff at St. Mary's Hospital, Pima County Hospital, Tucson Medical Center and St. Joseph's Hospital. He was a member of the Pima County Medical Society, Arizona Medical Association, American Medical Association, Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and American College of Surgeons. After closing his private practice in 1982, he joined the staff at Kino Hospital in the orthopedic clinic, and the University Physicians where he worked for a few more years. After retiring from medicine, he had the opportunity to pursue fulltime his passion for gardening, and maintained beautiful gardens at his home. He joined the Tucson Men's Garden Club where he was able to share his love of gardening with others. He also volunteered his gardening skills at the Arizona Children's Home. He delivered meals to shut-ins with Meals-on-Wheels out of St. Mary's Hospital. He was an accomplished bowler, and also learned to love the game of golf. He was a generous contributor to the Church, the University of Arizona, and other local charities. He enjoyed the friendships of many people, both in and out of his profession. Warren was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Elizabeth; his sister, Barbara; his brother, Harry and his infant son, Michael. He is survived by his children: Sue (Jim) Cross, Kathy Jones, Diane Wilhelms, Steve (Dee) Eddy, Barbara (Larry) Duel and Trisha (Tom) Cormier; grandchildren, Stacey, Stephen, Audri, Jennifer, Josie, Danielle, Michael, Lindsey, Ryan, Shawna, Samantha and Thomas; 14 great-grandchildren, one great-great- grandchild and many nieces and nephews. Although he loved his job, he will be remembered mostly as a humble, generous man who was dedicated to his God, his country and especially his family, but always regretted that he still had more to give. We will always love him and miss him. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 1800 N. Camino Pio Decimo. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to your favorite charity.

Thank you for sharing Dr. Eddy with all of his patients. I was one of them and he performed two knee surgeries on me. Dr. Eddy was a wonderful man and I was sorry when he closed his practice. I will always remember him and the kindness he showed to me.
