My sympathy to the Mackey family. I worked with him for many years at the Board of Animal Health.
I will remember him for the ever-present "twinkle in his eye", non-stop energy and enthusiasm, kindness and always the ready smile.
Dr. Mackey will be missed by many.

I got to know Dr. Mackey while working at the Veterinary Diagnostic Lab., and my wife Beth met him when we visited the State Fair. At our many vistis to the fair, we always looked for him first. We both have fond memories of Dr. Mackey. Both of us extend our sincere condolences to the Mackey family.

My sympathy to the Mackey family,
I had the honor of working with Dr. Mackey at the former East Side Animal Hospital in the late 70's. He was kind enough to write a recommendation for me as I applied to (and was accepted by) the U of M Waseca for Vet Tech classes. I remember him joking about drinking "Silver Tea" (hot water with creamer) when we ran out of coffee...
He was a wonderful man and will be missed.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Phyllis and her children. I will always remember Uncle Bud for his enthusiasm to teach our family about our heritage, and for being a wonderful brother to my Grandpa Mackey. It brings me confort to know they can be together again in heaven.

I express my deepest sympathies to Mrs. Mackey and the entire family. Dr. Mackey was one of a kind, and I am blessed to have had the privilege to have known him over the past 20 years. He was a great veterinarian, an enthusiastic historian, and a very fine man. Dr. Mackey was a hail fellow well met. He had an energetic and sparkling personality, and a zest for life. He brightened up every room and gathering he ever entered. Dr. Mackey served his country with distinction during World War II, and then returned to Minnesota where he was a prime mover in convincing the Legislature to establish a school for veterinary medicine at the University of Minnesota following the war. He went on to a career of distinguished accomplishments and public service as a veterinarian. He was a pillar of his profession. He was also a key player in forming the Minnesota Veterinary Historical Museum, and he worked tirelessly to preserve and honor the many significant contributions that his great profession has made to the State of Minnesota. Dr. Mackey will be deeply missed, but his memory and glowing spirit will remain with us always.

I will miss my Uncle "Bud" very much. He was the best uncle a girl could have. Family was very important to him and he and my aunt Phyllis put a lot of work into helping us learn all about our family history and Irish ancestry. Most of all I will miss seeing him at the State Fair and being with him, my dad and family as we watched my daughter compete at the State Fair horse show's. Rest in peace Uncle Bud and give my dad a big hug for me. We miss you both.

My sincerest condolences and prayers to Walt's family.
Walt was a force of nature. He was a brilliant veterinarian and had the heart of a poet. His presence will be very missed at the College of Veterinary Medicine.
