Brent Rusert Obituary

Brent Rusert 1945-2023 An era in our family has ended with the passing of Brent Rusert, who died December 4th at the age of 77 of heart failure and other medical issues. He was born December 29, 1945, in San Diego, California, and grew up in Colma, California as part of the Kahle family whose roots in Colma went back to the late 1860s. Brent was an only child old soul who was raised by his mother Marie Rusert and grandparents William and Anna Kahle. He attended Jefferson High School in Daly City, California, and graduated from San Francisco State with a degree in Biology in the late 1970s. Brent had a long career as a high school Science teacher in Austin, Nevada; Pyramid Lake, Nevada; and Leggett, California. After earning a counseling degree in the 90s, he was the counselor in Potter Valley, California. Finally, he taught at Noyo High School in Fort Bragg before he was forced to retire early in 2002 due to health issues. He enjoyed traveling and camping. He was a jack of all trades and could repair almost anything. He was an avid gardener and builder. He had a witty and sarcastic sense of humor, and was always outspoken in his beliefs. Brent's mind was full of thousands of projects he hoped to accomplish. He ascribed to the lines of the Dylan Thomas poem "Do not go gentle into that good night/rage, rage, against the dying of the light." His tenacious determination made him a larger-than-life figure in the Kahle/Rusert family. He is survived by Cindy, his wife of 44 years; his four children Shendry, Pauline, Frieda and Willie; six grandchildren and two great-grandsons. A memorial will take place in 2024. His ashes will be spread off the coast near his beloved property in Westport, California.
