Frederico "Fred" Lopez

1935 - 2018

Frederico "Fred" Lopez, of Lagarto, Texas, passed away quietly Sunday, May 13, 2018 at the age of 83. He passed at Windsor Nursing Facility in Calallen, Texas with his family by his side.

He was born March 25, 1935 to Simon and Prajedes Lopez in Orange Grove Texas.

He was a member of Saint Francis of Assisi Mission in Lagarto, Texas. Prior to moving to Lagarto, Texas he was a proud resident of Old San Patricio, Texas and Agua Dulce, Texas. He graduated from Agua Dulce High School in 1955. Upon graduation he enlisted in the United States Army and was a medic and a member of the Army Reserves,

Fred rendered many years of service at ARADMAC (Corpus Christi Army Depot), and he and his wife were the founders of Fred's Shop & Save in Agua Dulce, Texas. In his early years he was on the City Council, Mayor Pro-tem, and Mayor of Agua Dulce, Texas. He was also a member of the Agua Dulce Volunteer Fire Department. Upon retirement from ARADMAC he was the owner of the Bucking Armadillo Dance Hall and Lake Drive Inn & Bait Shop and Eric's Detail Shop all located in Mathis, Texas. He also served as a member of the Water Quality Board and was one of the founding members of ADB Federal Credit Union.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman. One of his greatest pleasures was spending time with his sons, daughters-in-law, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed seeing his sons, grandsons, and great-grandson participate in rodeos on the local and professional level. He took extreme pride in the accomplishments of his sons and grandchildren.

Fred is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Julia Zamudio Lopez, of Lagarto, Texas; three sons, Freddy (Sylvia) Lopez of Beeville, Texas, Ronnie (Sandra) Lopez of Adkins, Texas, Eric (Tina) Lopez of Corpus Christi, Texas ; seven grandchildren, Jolene (Brandin) Hackfeld, Blythe, Quisto, Stratton , Braylon, Penelope, and Ellani Lopez; two great-grandchildren, Cash and Avery Hackfeld; his brothers, Rosalio (Leonor) Lopez and Bernardino (Amelia) Lopez; sisters, Elida Ramos and Duvelsa Hernandez; his sisters-in-law, numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Simon and Prajedes Lopez and five brothers; Jose Maria "Chema" Lopez, Fidencio "Chencho" Lopez, Simon Lopez II, Angelito "Mangel" Lopez, and Augustin "Shorty" Lopez,

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Holmgreen Mortuary Chapel on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 with Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. that same evening.

Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church in Orange Grove, Texas.

Interment will follow at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Arrangements are entrusted to Holmgreen Mortuary, 2061 E. Main St., Alice, Texas.
