Reta Wright Obituary

Reta Mae Wright, who loved to be called "Ammaw" by her grandkids and "The Candy Lady" by her church family, was embraced by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 23, 2020.

Viewing will be at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia, Sunday December 27, 2020 from 10:00 a.m.- 6:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at The Church at Quail Creek, 801 Tascosa Road on Monday December 28, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Llano Cemetery. Reta was born in Amarillo, TX on January 1, 1934 to M.A. and Jessie Lee Hudson.

Reta was a loving and devoted mother to Renea Miller and Brad Wright. She raised her children in Odessa, TX and Amarillo, TX with her beloved husband Harold L. Wright.

Reta worked at Western National Life Insurance Company in the Accounting Department until her retirement.

She is survived by her children Renea Miller and husband Monte, Brad Wright and wife Sherry; grandchildren Tracey Kappler, Dane and Debbi Kappler, Jason and Delisa Hendrick, Melissa and Deron Lucero, Brandi and Adam Vasquez, Brooke and Cody Flowers, Jeremy and Maddie Wright, and Season and Michael Brown; 31 great grandchildren; sister Patsy Cash; numerous nieces and nephews she adored, and hundreds of adopted family that Reta took under her wing. She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Harold L. Wright, and great grandson, Elijah David Kappler.

Reta was a precious woman who loved the Lord, her family, and her church. She had a kind heart and everyone was drawn to her sincere sweet spirit. She was an avid reader and loved crossword puzzles. She enjoyed traveling with her cherished husband in their RV. She never missed one birthday or special occasion phone call, and would always send loving cards to the countless friends and family she treasured. She gave the very best back scratches and never failed to have sweet pickles ready for her grandkids. Reta was a blessing to everyone who knew her.

A special thanks to the amazing ladies at Heavenly Home for taking exceptional care of our Mom.

Reta was “The candy lady” but she and Harold were so much more than that, to me. I remember, fondly, being greeted by these two precious people, every Sunday morning for more than 15 years. Rest well, Reta...Hug Harold’s neck and have a butterscotch for me!
