RUDOLPH C. RIEHS
AGE: 94 BRICK
Rudolph C. Riehs, 94, of Brick, passed away on Friday, Sept. 25, 2009. Born in NYC in 1915, he attended grade school there and in Oslo, Norway. He earned his Bachelor's from City College of NY before starting his government career with Signal Corps Engineering as a junior engineer. Rudy was sent to London as the US liaison with the European Theater of Operations during WWII. Once returning to the States, Rudy was then in complete control of all Research & Development for all communications equipment for the Army. During this time, Rudy also returned to school earning a Masters in Electrical Engineering from Rutgers University. In 1954, Rudy became the Director of Engineering for the Army, before returning to the Communications Division in 1956 which now included all counterintelligence of atomic warfare. In 1968, Rudy rose to a position of management as Director of the Communications/ADP Laboratory where he remained until his retirement in 1979.
Rudy leaves his loving wife Phyllis (nee Turner), daughter Karen Riehs of Brick, daughter Krista and husband Angel Camilo of Forked River, and grandchildren Manuel, Carol, and Karyn Camilo.
Visitation will be held on Monday, Sept. 28 from 7-9pm at O'Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Road, Brick. A Funeral Service will follow on Tuesday at 11am at the funeral home. Committal will be private. Donations are requested to Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 528 Fellowship Road - Suite B, Mt. Laurel, NJ 08054 or www.leukemia.org .
