Ruth Greenhill Spatt

AGE: 98 • Deal

Ruth Greenhill Spatt, 98, of Deal, died Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013, in Dartmouth, MA at the home of her daughter surrounded by her daughter, son-in-law, son and granddaughter, Jennifer. She was born and raised in Monessen, PA. She graduated from the University of Michigan and earned a Master's degree from Kean College in Special Education. She enjoyed three careers, her first as a Medical Social Worker then as the owner of the Greenhill Gift Shop in Allenhurst. Her last career was as a Special Education teacher in Asbury Park and a fifth grade teacher in Middletown. Mrs. Spatt was a longtime member of Temple Beth El (Congregation Torat El) of Oakhurst.

She was predeceased by her husband, Max, who died in 1962; and her second husband, Joseph Spatt, who died in 1980. Surviving are children, Neil (Alina) Greenhill, and Beth (Donald) Lucero and her grandchildren, Michelle (Raizer), Tammi (Gitin), Jay Greenhill and Jennifer and Marisa (Ferreira) Lucero. She is also survived by 8 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 23 at Temple Beth El Cemetery, Highway #33, Neptune. Shiva will be at 62 Parker Ave., Deal after the funeral until 3 p.m. Friday and Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and Sunday Minyon will begin at 7 p.m. Donations to Monmouth County SPCA, Eatontown would be appreciated. Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels is in charge of arrangements.
