Walter Osterwald Obituary
AGE: 84 • Toms River
Walter H. Osterwald, 84, of Toms River, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013, at Community Medical Center in Toms River. Born in Weehawken, he lived in Union City before moving to Toms River in 1990. Walter proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. He retired from the Union City Police Department in 1982, after 28 years of dedicated service. He later worked for the U.S. Post Office Bulk Center in Jersey City. Walter was a member of the NJ PBA Retired Officers Local No. 600 in Woodbridge; the NJ PBA Local No. 8 in Union City; and American Legion Post No. 129 in Toms River. He enjoyed fishing, bingo and he loved spending time with his cherished family, especially his grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 56 years, Florence in 2009. Surviving are his son, Walter; two daughters, Cheryl Bolinger and her husband Roy and Lisa Morrell and her fiancé Anthony Garuccio; his brother, Arthur and his wife Barbara; and his loving grandchildren, Kristin, Stephen, Lauren and Leah.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9 and Thursday, Oct. 10 at Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main St., Toms River. A funeral mass will be held at 9:15 a.m. Friday, Oct. 11 at St. Luke Church, 1674 Old Freehold Road, Toms River. Entombment will follow at Ocean County Memorial Park in Toms River. I met Walter at the Knights of Columbus bingo hall in Forked River. He was always so pleasant to everyone. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Worked with Walter from 1963 thru 1982. He was one of my first teachers on the job. Always had a jovial attitude. Who could forget the Osterwald and Dougherty team. Rest in Peace my Brother....Frank Caputo
