Great guy and an amazing mechanic. He let me work for him for a while when I was traveling thru California in the 90's to pay for the parts I needed for my blown up VW bus. I would have been stranded, didn't have enough money for my parts
He let me work off the parts, taught me a LOT, and was just an amazing person. Ended up staying and working for a while after my van was perfect. That changed my life and I'm a professional mechanic now, on my way to following in his footsteps as a master mechanic. Good mechanic, great man. Btw, the girl I was traveling with back then is my wife now

Heidi wanted me to add "thanks you for the ice cold dr pepper when we first rolled spewing smoke up to the garage. Made a big impact in my life.

It was a 1974 vw westfailia camper with dual carbs, he helped me get it running then went above and beyond tuning it. And replacing the shot out carbs too. Ran like a top til 2008 when it retired.

Those years are fuzzy....but quality person and I kinda remember his wife being great too.

Here we are in my shop, and I still specialize in VW. And in always try to treat people like he treated us. I should have stayed and worked longer.

Richard was my "car mechanic" for about 40 years. It all started with a VW as it did many others. I always liked Richard for his honesty and ability to fix my various cars that I brought to him over the years. I also enjoyed the my visits when they happened early in the day because Richard always seemed to be "holding court" with his friends and other associates at that time. A lot of things were talked about around 9-10 am in those days. Richard will be missed by many who he helped over the years.

I had a 72 Super Beetle that Richard had to work on a lot. I'm sure he cringed when he saw me rolling up I was in there so often. What a sweet and smart man. I'm so sorry for your loss.
