ATHOL, MA — Benjamin J. Thompson, 66, of Pinedale Avenue, died on Monday, March 21, 2022 at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center Campus in Worcester, surrounded by his family.

Born in Worcester on May 17, 1955, he was the son of Hubert "Tommy" and Patricia (Curfew) Thompson and grew up in the Tully section of Orange and graduated from Ralph C. Mahar Regional in the class of 1973.

In 1980, Ben married Brady (Preece) and they have enjoyed their marriage and raising a family for 42 years.

Employed by Erving Paper Mill for over 40 years, Ben was the Chief Operator of the Erving Wastewater Treatment Plant and had just retired the end of February this year.

Always the life of the party, Ben was focused on family and friends and enjoyed numerous get togethers over the years. He was passionate about music, food, and later in life he became a painter and artist.

Ben was a member of the North Quabbin Lodge of Masons

Survivors include his loving wife, Brady Thompson of Athol; his children, Daniel Thompson, Lily Patricia Thompson (Chris Perrault) and William Thompson (Heather Heath), all of Athol; grandchildren, Karim Thompson, Jolie Thompson, Tommy Perrault, Wilson Thompson, and Cecilia Thompson.

Ben also leaves a brother, John Thompson (Rita) of Orange; sisters, Virginia Jones of Orange and Jennifer Arbour (Michael) of Union, ME; many cherished nephews and nieces; and an extended inner circle of friends that became family.

Besides his parents, Ben was predeceased by a brother, Dr. Stephen Thompson, on February 27, 2014.

There are no calling hours.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at 10 a.m. in the Community Church of North Orange and Tully, 48 Main Street (at the corner with Cremaery Hill Rd), Orange.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Shriner's Children's Hospital, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104, or to the Friends of Athol Public Library, 568 Main St, Athol, MA 01331.
