Alan Harris Obituary

HARRIS, Alan Moore

Alan Moore Harris, age 89 of Atlanta, GA. passed on October 7, 2021 peacefully in his sleep into the arms of his Heavenly Father. Born and raised in Raleigh, NC he attended the Emmaus Bible School in Chicago, drafted into the army (stationed at Fort Knox), and graduated from UNC in Chapel Hill in 1959. He started his career as a claims rep with Social Security and later, in Atlanta as an aide to the regional commissioner retiring in 1988. Mr. Harris married and spend his first year with her and their daughter in Burkina Faso, West Africa.

As a team him and his wife worked tirelessly serving, caring and loving the homeless especially the disabled and mentally ill by helping apply for SSI Disibility at First Presbyterian Church. He is surived by his wife Nancy, daughter and son-in-law Rose and Jameel Davis and his grandchildren Aysha and Michael. Memorial services will be held ar First Presbyterian Church, 1328 Peachtree Street, Atlanta, GA on October 19th at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations to Community Ministries, First Presbyterian Church.

My thoughts and prayers go to my sister Nancy, Rosie, Aysha and Michael. May God surround you in his Love. I feel so blessed to have known Alan. I tell everyone he was the Mother Teresa of Atlanta for the poor and homeless. His legacy is found in the thousands of people whose lives were forever changed through his love!

Dear Nancy, Rose, Jameel, Aysha and Mike,

We know our brother-in -law, Alan to be a remarkably kind, patient and giving person who worked tirelessly for most of his adult life with the mentally ill, disabled and homeless.

We know how proud he was of his family and how very much he loved and treasured each and every one of you.

Alan's passing will leave a void in so many lives. Surely , his many selfless and caring acts have earned him a special place in heaven.

We hope the love of family and friends brings you some comfort during this difficult time.
