Elizabeth CLARKE Obituary

CLARKE, Elizabeth Anne Elizabeth Anne Stuckey Clarke died on July 30, 2016. She was born in Eastman, Georgia on March 31, 1938, the daughter of Felix J. and Wilma Carter Stuckey. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Rev. Dr. Albert E. Clarke; son, attorney Alan Stuckey Clarke of Atlanta; son-in-law, Jeffery A. Brown; brother, Felix Jay Stuckey Jr., sister-in-law, Lisa, nephew and niece Alex Stuckey and Annalicia Stuckey of Lawrenceville; aunt, Ann R. Stuckey of Eastman; uncle, Jack Miller of Americus; and six first cousins and their families. Mrs. Clarke graduated from Wesleyan College in Macon in 1960 and later continued her education at Mercer University in Atlanta. A retired schoolteacher, she taught kindergarten, elementary and middle school students for 25 years in Fulton, Bibb and Dodge Counties, including the Westminster Schools and Underwood Hills in Atlanta. She was awarded the Daughters of the American Revolution (D.A.R.) "History Teacher of the Year," as well as the George Washington Medal from the Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge for her original play entitled "Let's Keep our Nation Great." A beloved educator, she used her skills in drama and the arts to teach other subjects, including history and literature, giving her students fun and creative ways to learn important life skills as they developed their self-confidence. Mrs. Clarke served as a docent at the Georgia Governor's Mansion for many years, conducting tours for visitors from around the world during the administrations of both Governor Perdue and Governor Deal. She was a long-standing member of Peachtree Road United Methodist Church and its Timothy Sunday School Class and Intercessory Prayer Ministry. A lifelong Methodist, Mrs. Clarke served by the side of her husband and was an active participant in the programs of their churches, as he pastored at St. Mark, Northside, St. James, Glenn Memorial and Sandy Springs United Methodist Churches in Atlanta, in addition to Peachtree Road. She was his cherished partner in ministry, using her own gifts and graces including singing in choirs, teaching Sunday School classes of all ages and directing plays. The service will be held at 11 o'clock on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church with a reception immediately following the service at the church. Dear Al, Alan and Jeffrey,

We remember with great fondness our days of shared ministry at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church in the 1970's.
We are deeply saddened to learn of Anne's death.
She was a true example of a Christian lady, always gracious, loving, caring, and giving. Her smile always warmed our hearts. Anne and I had a special relationship which I cherish. Even though we didn't see one another often, we always picked up right where we left off with our friendship.(Carole)
May God and the Holy Spirit hold you close throughout these difficult days of loss.

Al, Alan, and Jeffrey, our prayers are with you. I shall always remember and appreciate how Anne taught me how to hold a baby (Sorry, Alan, but you were only 3 months old -- you were only a prop) while baptizing it. What a great spirit she was. She was one of the most organized and generous people I've known.

Every time I saw Al and Anne I felt warmed all over! When I first moved into the building, Al and Anne took me under their wing. When I retired Al gave me wise advice about retiring from a teaching profession, because Anne had done the same. Their good cheer and compassion spread all around them and infused those of us lucky enough to know each of them. Bless you and your family.
