Colonel Bogle and my father, Robert Jones of Chattanooga, traveled togother on several occasions and Colonel Bogle shared his wealth of historical knowledge. He was a true southern gentleman and will be missed by so many people. I had not been in contact with him in recent years, and that is truly my loss. He was a very fine, outstanding man. My deepest condolences to his dear family during this time.

Col. Bogle was a dear and wonderful gentleman in the truest sense. He always took the time to ask about you and your family. I will miss having him as my neighbor and our visits at the mailbox. My thoughts and prayers are with Alice and Jim and their families.

Col. Bogle was a brilliant and fascinating man with a warm and caring way about him that made others feel special. Alice, thank you for the opportunity, as your friend, to have gotten to know your Dad.
I will always remember his sweet "thank you notes" (that I keep), his warm smile, sparkling blue eyes, and wonderful Hello and Goodbye “hugs”. The last hug we shared was at church a couple weeks ago. Before he left I asked him for a “second” hug goodbye…and from his wheelchair he smiled and gave me the “strongest” hug ever! I'll always remember that.
Alice, Steve, John and family, may you be comforted in knowing that he had a full and wonderful life; that you loved him, and he you, fully; and that he is now happily reunited and dancing with his lovely wife, Mary Alice. Joyful memories will always live on in your hearts.
I will remember your Dad/Pop fondly.
Love and blessings,

Col. Bogle was a wonderful friend and tremendous help to all of us with
the old L&N railroad and its successor, CSX Transportation.
Jim's knowledge of railroad history spanned many decades, including
(and especially) the Civil War years. That's when his beloved engine
"General" came to fame, and a century later, as the L&N began restoration of the old engine, it was Jim who generously gave of his
time and talents to help both our p.r. and operating departments to
achieve a dignified "rerun" of the Andrews Raid and send the engine
out on a series of Civil War Centennial commemorative trips.
We'll miss his wonderful friendship and helpfulness. My personal
condolences go out to his son, daughter and their children and
grandchildren. Charles B. Castner, retired public relations
manager, the former L&N Railroad (CSX Transportation),

I can remember riding the bus from downtown(the pre-MARTA Medlock Limited)and having lively conversations with Col.Bogle about the Army and our usual driver (known as the Red Baron). I was a TC officer recently returned from Vietnam and being a Lieutenant, I was impressed that a full Col. would spend the time with me. Even more impressed since I was a "boat guy" and he was a rail "guy". My family and I send our condolences.

I worked with Col. Bogle at the old Georgia Historical Commision, and we had kept up over the years, having lunch from time to time. William R. Mitchell, Jr.
