Louis TARATOOT Obituary

TARATOOT, Louis J. Louis J. Taratoot, of Atlanta, Georgia, died peacefully at home on April 22, 2015 surrounded by his loving and devoted family. He leaves behind his wife of 70 years, Amy Blumberg Taratoot, and their three sons, James Michael Taratoot (wife Patricia Kirstein Taratoot), Dan Edward Taratoot, and Robert Kim Taratoot. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren: Cori Brett Taratoot, Kevin Brad Taratoot (daughter Selena Nicole Taratoot), Lauren Jill Taratoot (husband David Hugo, son Olin Wyche Hugo), Jamie Anne Taratoot (husband Chad Zimmerman), Jason Henry Taratoot, Brandon Matthew Taratoot, and Alexander Grant Taratoot. Born June 29, 1923 to Herschel and Ella Taratoot, Louis survived his five older siblings, Mary Taratoot London, Abe Taratoot, Sara Taratoot Schwartzberg, Dave Taratoot, and Ida Taratoot Miller. He is celebrated and remembered by many nieces, nephews and friends who looked up to him as the solid center of the Taratoot family. Louis served in the Navy during World War II; he subsequently attended Georgia Tech and Emory University. After early business successes, including the purchase and ownership of Seitzinger Inc. with his brother Abe, Evans Metal, National Lead, and Imaco Solder, Louis went on to form Taracorp Industries. His prosperity and extraordinary generosity manifested in philanthropic endeavors, including several visits to Israel to help develop the country's first tennis center. Louis loved playing and watching sports - in his last days he took great joy in watching golf, tennis tournaments and basketball. An avid golfer, tennis player, swimmer and skier, Louis enjoyed traveling and spending time with his wife Amy by the ocean in Palm Beach, Florida and in the mountains of Montana. Louis lived his life to the fullest. He will be missed by his family and all who knew him over the course of his 92 years. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the William Breman Jewish Home and Ahavath Achim Synagogue in Atlanta, Georgia. Funeral services will be Friday, April 24, 2015 at 11 o'clock at The Ellman Chapel at Ahavath Achim Synagogue, 600 Peachtree Battle Ave. NW, Atlanta, GA 30327 with Rabbi Neil Sandler officiating.

I loved this man...he was my Granddaughter's Great-Grandfather. He always had a smile on his face. He always made you feel welcome when you were at his home. Selena always knew where his candy drawer was in the kitchen...these memories will last forever. His wife Amy, is an angel.

Dear Amy and Boys,
We are saddened by the news that Lou passed away. It was our hope that we would see his smiling face in Palm Beach again--he has been greatly missed by all of his tennis buddies and friends here in Palm Beach. Lou was a great friend and a wonderful neighbor---a true mensch!
We send our sincere condolences and love--you are in our hearts!

Another day without you Daddy. We are fine, and our lives go on. Mama is fine, and will always have everything. We can handle this. Have fun with Abe.

My deepest sympathies for Amy and for your family and loved ones. May you and your loved ones find comfort in the promise found in Ps. 34: 17-18. May the God of all comfort continue to be with you during this difficult time.

Mr. Taratoot was very fondly spoken of by my mother (Annie Mapp). I pray that the only one true living God will do what only He can do in the life of the family members; give beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness. May you know the love, grace & peace of Jesus Christ The Lord!!!

In your sorrow, may there be peace. . . In your thoughts, may there be love. . . In your hearts, may there be healing. Psalm 147 : 3 promises : " He heals the brokenhearted; He binds up their wounds.
