I just made a trip back to Atlanta this past weekend and found out about Mary passing away in November.
I met Mary about 15 years ago when she was looking for someone to help her with her Christmas Decorating. What started out as a one-time job...turned into a 14 year Christmas tradation!
She was always such a grasious, positive and lovely lady, and became a good friend. It was a highlight of my Holiday Season each year to spend a day with Mary, catching up, and seeing her eyes light up as she watched me assemble her "Dickens Village".
My most fond memories of Christmas in Altanta will always include Mary Lunsford at the very top!
My thoughts are with her family and friends.

Mrs.Lunsford was my pre- first grade teacher at Westminster in 1966. She was so gentle to us and seeing her name brought back very warm memories of our classroom and how pretty she was. I also knew her from our church in Atlanta. My sympathy goes to her family. She was a wonderful person who made an impression that will remain a lifetime for lots of us.

I was sad to hear of Mary's death. I did not know her as an adult, but have a single vivid memory of her and her Shorter College affiliation that had a formative influence on me.
I was born and grew up in Thomasville. I knew many Vann family members and I estimate that my Dad, Jack Zalumas and Mary would have been contemporaries. He died in 1992.
During my senior year at Thomasville High School, Shorter College had a luncheon for prospective college students at the garden club. It was a formal, grand, and welcoming affair and Mary was there. It was my first exposure to alumna activities and loyalties and to mentoring of youth in quite that way. I had already decided on and been accepted at FSU, but I always remembered that experience.
I later attended other universities and had a career in academia at Emory and now Mercer. I always remember the glimpse of a committed alumna - who remembered to come back to thomasville to recruit. I wish I had known she was in Atlanta. I would have connected with her at some poiont over these many years.
My condolences to your family.

We are so sad to hear of Mary's death. I remember meeting her at Dr. Lunsford's house and discovering we were "kin" from both sides of the family. She has always been gracious and kind, setting a wonderful example for generations of family to come.

Mrs. Lunsford was also my pre-first teacher, and I remember her as being cheerful and sweet and gentle. It was a simpler time, and she inspired us to love school. I remember we were sent home when President Kennedy was shot, and Mrs. Lunsford was calm and reassuring. I feel lucky and honored to have known her! All my best wishes to her family.

I was so sad to hear of Mrs. Lunsford's death and I send my heartfelt condolences to her family. Mrs. Lunsford was my Pre-First teacher at Westminster in 1964 and I just adored her. She was such a lady and I remember wanting to be just like her. I have a very clear memory of her coming to our house one time and sitting on the porch having tea with my mother and me. I don't remember why she was there, but I do remember feeling like the luckiest girl in the world that she was. I hope everyone who loved her and misses her today takes comfort in knowing how deeply she touched so many lives.

I deeply miss Mrs. Lunsford who was like a second mother to me back in the Westminster days when Rodgers was my very best friend. I spent so many dyas and nights at their home that it felt like home away from home. I have vivid memories of Mrs. Lunsfords wonderful smile and voice greeting me at her door. We'll remember you Mrs. L.
