Trevor Jones Obituary

Latham -- Trevor Douglas Jones, 68, of Latham and Stony Creek, known by all as Doug, died on Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2005, at St. Mary's Hospital in Troy.

Born in Troy on Nov. 23, 1937, Mr. Jones was the son of the late Arthur Douglas Jones and Isabelle Garvie Jones.

He was raised in Watervliet and was a 1955 graduate of Watervliet High School. Following high school, Mr. Jones entered into a cooperative program with Hudson Valley Community College and the Bendix Corporation in Green Island, for which he received an associate's degree from the college and permanent employment with Bendix.

A member of the 109th Airlift Wing of the Air National Guard in Scotia, his employment with Bendix was interrupted in 1961, when he was called from inactive duty to serve his country with the Air Force during the Berlin Crisis of 1961. While in service, Mr. Jones served overseas as a crew chief aboard C-97 Stratofreighters and was later honorably discharged with the rank of sergeant.

He returned home and to his job with Bendix, where he worked until his retirement in 1988. He later worked in a part- time capacity, in customer service, for the former Garden Way Co. in Troy until its closing.

Mr. Jones was a former member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, the Maplewood Post of the American Legion, the Polaris Mountain Hunting Club of Newcomb, the Stony Creek Senior Citizens and was an honorary member of the Watervliet Chapter of the Ancient Order of Hibernians.

He was the beloved husband of Margaret Anselment Jones, to whom he was married on March 4, 1962; much loved father of Douglas J. (Mary Ann) Jones of Latham, Ellen (Peter) Cappellino of Manhattan and David A. Jones of Latham; cherished grandfather of Anna and Trevor Jones and Carl and Amelia Cappellino; dear brother-in-law of George and Kathy Anselment of Clifton Park. Also surviving are a niece, nephew and several cousins.

Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. from the Parker Brothers Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet, on Saturday and at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Latham, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Very Rev. Joseph E. Anselment and the Rev. Geoffrey D. Burke.

Interment will follow at Memory's Garden, Colonie.

Relatives and friends are invited and may also call at the funeral home on Friday from 3 to 7 p.m.

Doug loved the Adirondack Mountains, the people of that region and their folklore and was especially sensitive to their needs. To honor his memory, the family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, any donations be made to St. Cecilia's Church Building Fund (Warrensburg), or to the North Country Ministry Emergency Fuel Fund, c/o Parker Brothers Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet, NY, 12189.

We were unaware of Doug's passing until just the other day. Words cannot express our sorrow to you and your family. Doug was a wonderful and kind-hearted man who always had a smile on his face! It is that smile that we will remember the most. We will truly miss him. Marge, you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Margie and family, I was so shocked to hear of Doug's passing. I remember seeing him this summer and no matter how many years go by we never fail to remember our relatives. As Dad would say he was the best and most gentle man. To my one and only babysitter, I will never forget the beautiful card that you wrote to Gary Mike and me when dad passed. I read it every now and then and it gives me great comfort. I will be talking to you soon Marge and my heart and prayers are with you always. Love Maureen

Marge, Doug,Ellen and David,

We are all sad at the news of Doug's passing. He will always have a special place in our hearts. Although he was our cousin, his relationship growing up with our father made him more like an uncle to Paul and me. I will regret the fact that we didn't keep in touch but we all have such good memories of times spent with Doug. It didn't matter if we were seeing him for the first time in years, it was always so comfortable with him. He always seemed so happy to see us and we always felt his love for us. I will always remember his warm smile, the twinkle in his eyes, and his wonderful laugh. I can't believe that we will be saying goodbye to him on our father's birthday. I hope they're together and having a great time.

Love, Linda

I was so sorry to hear the news. We had some great times together at Stoney Creek. Living away from people that you care about has one distinct advantage. You picture things as they were when you left. Brenda and I have wonderful memories that will stay with us forever. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Doug will be dearly missed in the lives of so many.

A man that I was glad to have as a neighbor. He was never seen without a smile and never spoke without kind words. He was always willing to lend a hand for my children and me. A man who always had a shoulder for me to lean on or to cry on when needed. A kind and gentle soul who will be missed by anyone who knew him. I will miss his kind smiles at coffee time but will never forget them.

My thoughts and prayers are with Marge and his family at this very difficult time.
