Family-Placed Death Notice

CROWE, Wiley Wiley Edsel Crowe, of Buford, GA, born 07-07-1927 in Forsythe County to the late Wiley Birl Crowe and Alice Mae Cantrell Crowe passed away on April 2, 2011. Wiley and his late wife, Ruby, moved to Atlanta in 1944. He was drafted into the military Airforce Division in 1945 and served in the South Pacific for 2 years. After returning home as a WWII Veteran, he went to work for Potter and Rayfield as a machinist for 30 years. Then he went to work for General Motors as a tool maker. In 1972, he started with Atlanta Journal as Lead Liaison of mechanical maintenance, which he retired in 1989 after 17 years. He and his wife moved back to Gwinnett County near Clint and Ara Jones homeplace in a retirement home they built. Mr. Crowe was a member of In Touch Ministries with Rev. Charles Stanley of First Baptist Church of Atlanta. He was also a Master Mason and member of Masonic Lodge #171 in Mabelton, GA for 50 plus years. He was ordained as a Baptist Deacon in 1953 and served as a Deacon at Maranantha Baptist Church for 6 years. Mr. Crowe was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, his wife of 65 years, Ruby Jones Crowe, a son Larry Edsel Crowe and a sister, Ethel Mozzelle Crowe Etheridge, all of Buford, GA. Survivors are a sister Ida Mae Crowe White of Buchanon, GA and a host of nieces, nephews and beloved friends. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 4, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Broadlawn Memorial Gardens in Buford, GA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Mr. Crowe's wishes are for donations to be made to Friendship Community Baptist Church, 3784 Friendship Circle, Buford, GA 30519.
