Robert W. Thomason

Robert W. "R.W" Thomason was born July 25, 1915, the son of William B. and Alice M. (McFadden) Thomason in Bear Grove Township, Cass County, and passed away Thursday, Nov. 26, 2009, at the Heritage House in Atlantic.
He attended school at Bear Grove #5 and Atlantic High School.
On Oct. 28, 1939, he was united in marriage to Mildred Maas in Santa Monica, Calif. R.W. worked at Douglas Aircraft in California during World War II. He then returned to Iowa, farming south of Atlantic for 20 years until moving to Atlantic in 1966.
On Feb. 15, 1972, he was united in marriage to Josephine Keith. During that time, R.W. drove semi long distance hauling, retiring at the age of 72. He then worked at Fareway in Atlantic in the produce department and as an "unofficial greeter", later becoming an official greeter at Walmart at the age of 90, when the new store opened in Atlantic.
R.W. was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a member of Nishna Hills Golf Club until age 91. He enjoyed golf, but probably enjoyed the socialization more.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jo Thomason; his parents, W.B. and Alice Thomason; his sister, Gladys Boos; and his brother, Glenn Thomason.
R.W. is survived by his daughter, Marilyn Jensen and her husband, Craig of Loveland, Colo.; his granddaughter, Traci Jensen and her husband, Jim Tesar and his grandson, Kyle Jensen all of Vancouver, Wash.; his step-daughter, Mary Jo Nelson and her husband, Gary of rural Atlantic; his step-grandchildren, Jody Wohlenhaus and her husband, Mike of Adel, and Jeff Nelson and his wife, Trish of Audubon; and his great-grandchildren, Gabriella and Kellen Jensen, Quinn and Conner Wohlenhaus, and Bailey and Kasey Nelson.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 3, in the chapel at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic. Burial of cremated remains will be in the Atlantic Cemetery. No visitation is scheduled.
The family is requesting that in lieu of flowers memorials be directed to the Cass County Memorial Hospital Hospice, 1500 E. 10th St., Atlantic, IA 50022.
